• Failed nylon corner keys in WinGuard Aluminum frames. After 15 to 20 years of salt exposure, the factory corner keys in legacy WinGuard aluminum sashes turn brittle and crumble. When that happens, the sash racks slightly, the corners drop, and water weeps into the frame at the miter joints. We replace the key with a factory PGT part and set it in structural adhesive, then test the sash for square. This is one of the most common WinGuard repairs we perform in Miami, and it’s frequently misdiagnosed as a frame warp when the real culprit is a $12 corner key.
• Delaminated laminated glass in early WinGuard Vinyl units. Units manufactured between roughly 2008 and 2012 sometimes develop interior moisture wicking between the PVB layers, with no exterior seal failure visible. The glass looks fogged from the inside, but the insulated seal is intact. We see this on Miami homes where high humidity and aggressive AC cycles stress the laminate bond over time. The fix is glass replacement, not a frame replacement.
• Warped sashes in Spectrum vinyl double hungs. Painted dark exteriors on east- or west-facing Miami homes absorb direct sun all day. The vinyl heats, relaxes, and distorts slightly. The result is cam-lock misalignment, air infiltration at the meeting rail, and a sash that won’t lock without force. We can often correct the alignment and upgrade the weatherstripping. When the distortion is too far gone, we’ll tell you honestly that replacement beats repeated adjustments.
• Worn lift rail spring balances in single hungs. Factory balances lose tension after roughly 10,000 cycles. In a Miami bedroom window opened twice a day, that’s about 13 to 14 years. The first sign is a sash that drops suddenly or won’t stay up. Tilt latches usually break next, because the worn balance lets the sash slam.
