PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide

We stock and install PGT-compatible sliding and patio door parts throughout Miami, with most roller, handle, and lock replacements running between $140 and $385 installed. Same-day service is common on standard PGT rollers and handles because our trucks carry the most frequently replaced PGT parts. If your door suddenly drags, jumps the track, or the latch won’t catch, you’re probably looking at a worn roller assembly or a misaligned strike plate, both of which we fix on the first visit more often than not.

PGT doors are built for Florida’s wind loads and humidity, but Miami’s salt air and daily thermal cycles are relentless on moving hardware. The rollers flatten over time, the vinyl glides crack, and the handle sets corrode faster than owners expect. What starts as a door that needs a nudge turns into a door that fights you every morning. The good news is that PGT parts are well documented, and when you know the series and the age, matching the right component is a straightforward job.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s sliding and patio door lines in Miami include the 900 Series, the 770 Series, the 2200/2300 Series, and the WinGuard impact-rated models that are everywhere in flood zones and along the coast. Each series uses its own roller housing dimensions and latch geometry, so a roller that fits a 900 Series door will not seat correctly in a WinGuard frame. The difference is usually a few millimeters in wheel diameter or housing width, and it’s enough to make the door bind or sit crooked.

How do you know what you have? The cleanest way is to read the sticker on the door frame or the etching in the corner of the glass, which often lists the series and the original manufacturing date. If the sticker is gone, we measure the roller housing width and the wheel diameter with calipers before we order anything. Dale Kessler’s rule applies here: measure twice, order once, and put everything in writing. For most PGT doors we recommend OEM rollers and handles. The tolerances matter, and aftermarket parts that are “close enough” are the reason half the doors in this city rattle in their tracks.

We also work on CGI, CWS, and ES Windows sliding doors, so if you have a mixed home or you’re not certain what you’re looking at, we’ll identify it on site.

Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or you feel a grinding “grit” when you open it. Flat spots on the rollers or sand packed into the bearing race. In Miami Beach and Brickell, we see this constantly because wind-driven sand and salt get into the track and wear the bearings out years early.
  • The door lifts or tips slightly when you pull it. The roller height adjustment has backed off or the nylon wheel has worn down. You’re now dragging the door frame on the track, which scores the aluminum and makes the next repair more expensive.
  • The latch catches, but only if you pull the door up or push it hard. The door panel has settled out of plane, usually because a roller failed on one side. The strike plate is no longer aligned with the latch, and forcing it will bend the keeper.
  • You hear a rolling roughness but the door moves freely. Early-stage bearing wear. This is the best time to replace rollers, before the steel axle wears into the housing and you’re suddenly paying for a new track too.
  • Condensation or fog between the glass panels. The insulated glass unit has a broken seal. PGT’s Miami and coastal IGUs are rated for high humidity, but seal failure is a fact of life after 15 to 20 years in this climate, especially on doors that get direct western exposure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Miami for common PGT sliding and patio door part replacements, installed:

Part Typical Installed Cost
Roller assembly (per door panel) $140 - $240
Handle set with lock (PGT-compatible) $180 - $320
Latch / strike plate adjustment or replacement $90 - $160
Track cleaning, alignment, and roller service $120 - $200
Full panel re-roller plus track conditioning $260 - $385

The spread depends on the series, whether the track needs re-conditioning, and whether the door is an impact-rated WinGuard model with heavier glass. Every quote includes parts, labor, cleanup, and a written line-item price before we start. Nothing gets added at the end. Our work is covered by the 90-Day Done Right Promise, and because we’re an independent service provider, not a PGT dealer, the warranty is on our workmanship, not on a corporate service schedule.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely clean the bottom track with a stiff brush and a vacuum, check the rollers for visible flat spots, and note whether the door panel sits level. What you should not do is remove a door panel yourself, especially a PGT WinGuard. Those panels can weigh 200 pounds or more, and the tension in a misadjusted roller housing is enough to launch the panel off its track. We’ve had more than one Miami homeowner call us after a panel landed on a tile floor or a foot. That’s not a roller repair anymore. That’s a new glass order, a frame inspection, and a much longer job.

For a door that still slides but grinds, a service call is usually the cheapest version of this repair. For a door that’s bound up, don’t force it. Call (561) 489-4036 and we’ll send a tech who has done this exact job in this exact climate for over 42 years.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."
