CWS Window Replacement: The Miami Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible window replacement parts throughout Miami, with most sashes, balances, and sealed glass units priced between $85 and $325 installed depending on the series and size. We carry common CWS hardware on the truck, so a single-visit fix is the rule rather than the exception. Most homeowners don’t discover a failing CWS part until the sash starts binding on one side, a latch stops catching, or condensation appears between the panes on a dewy Miami morning.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS. That matters in a practical way: we’re not tied to one supply chain, so when a CWS part is discontinued or backordered, we source a matching equivalent rather than telling you to replace the whole window.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS (Custom Window Systems) built its reputation on hurricane-rated aluminum and vinyl lines for Florida’s coastal market. In Miami, we most often service the CWS 5600 and 5650 single-hung series, the 9000 series horizontal rollers, and the EST and ESW impact lines common in high-rise and mid-rise condos along Brickell and Edgewater. Older CWS windows from the late 1990s and early 2000s used a narrower balance channel than current production, and that’s the single most common mismatch we catch when homeowners order parts online without checking the channel width.

To identify your part correctly, look at the edge of the sash or inside the frame track. CWS stamps a series number on the spacer bar of insulated glass units and on the metal shoe of the balance. If the stamp is worn off, we measure the balance channel width and the visible glass height before recommending anything. On CWS specifically, we prefer OEM parts for impact-rated sashes and laminated glass, because the Miami-Dade product approval is tied to the original components. For non-impact hardware like balances, latches, and rollers, quality aftermarket equivalents perform identically and often cost 30 to 40 percent less.

Signs Your CWS Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Sash drops or won’t stay open. The spring balance inside the jamb has fatigued or the cord has snapped. On CWS 5600 series windows in direct west-facing sun, we see this most often between years 12 and 15.
  • Condensation between the panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Miami’s humidity finds the breach quickly; once moisture is inside, the argon or krypton fill is gone and the glass cannot be resealed, only replaced.
  • Rollers grind or the door drags. On CWS horizontal rollers, the nylon wheels wear flat over time, especially if the track collects sand and salt from coastal air. A wheel that’s worn to the hub will score the bottom rail.
  • Lock or latch won’t catch. The sash has drifted out of alignment or the lock keeper has worn. On impact-rated CWS windows, a non-functioning lock also compromises the hurricane rating, not just your security.
  • Hard to open or close, year-round. Frame or sash warping from thermal expansion, or a balance that’s wrong for the sash weight. Swapping the balance without confirming the sash weight on CWS windows is the quickest way to make the problem worse.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Miami, expect to pay between $85 and $325 for most single-part CWS window replacements, parts and labor together. A balance replacement runs $85 to $145. A roller and track service runs $110 to $190. A sealed insulated glass unit for a standard CWS single-hung runs $180 to $325, and impact-laminated glass pushes that range to $275 to $450 depending on size and the required Miami-Dade product approval.

What moves the price: sash size, whether the unit is impact-rated, whether we’re matching a discontinued glass tint or coating, and access conditions on high floors or tight lanai enclosures. You get a written line-item price before we start, not an estimate that becomes a surprise. Both warranty layers on any replacement part are registered in writing before our truck leaves the driveway, and the work is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise. If the pane is not true, the job is not done.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely clean the tracks, check for obvious obstructions, and confirm whether the lock keeper has loosened. But once the problem involves spring tension, a sealed glass unit, or an impact-rated sash, call us. CWS spring balances are under enough load that a slipped tool can take a finger or worse, and the balance channel on these windows is narrow enough to make the mistake easy for an untrained hand. Dale Kessler will tell you the same thing he told a homeowner in Coconut Grove last month: measure twice, order once, and put everything in writing. For anything beyond a wipedown, call (561) 489-4036 and we’ll be there when we say, with the right part on the truck.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."

RRonald P.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."
