PGT Door Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

PGT door installation in Miami typically runs between $850 and $2,400 installed, depending on the door type, hardware condition, and whether we’re replacing a worn roller assembly or resetting an entire slider in a corroded track. We stock PGT-compatible rollers, hinges, weatherstripping, and latch sets on our trucks, and most hardware swaps are done the same day. The way most Miami owners find us: the door has been getting harder to slide since spring, the latch stopped seating, or a corner of weatherstripping finally pulled loose during a storm.

Before you go further: TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent installer and repair company. We are not affiliated with PGT, and we don’t present ourselves otherwise. What we do is match the right part to the right series, install it square, and register the warranty in writing before we leave.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s Miami footprint is deep, and that means we see a wide range of series on service calls. The common ones: WinGuard (aluminum and vinyl), SpectraGuard, ClassicVue, and the older CGI-adjacent lines that PGT acquired over the years. Each series takes a different roller, a different sill interlock height, and a different weatherstrip profile. Here’s the gotcha that costs homeowners money: PGT quietly changed roller diameters on WinGuard sliders around 2016. A roller ordered from a generic parts catalog for “PGT sliding door” often bolts in but sits 1/16 inch high or low, which makes the door drag, which makes the homeowner think the door itself is warped. It isn’t. It’s the wrong roller.

When you call us, we ask you to check the inside edge of the door panel first. PGT stamps a series code and glass spec onto most panels made after 2008, usually near the lock stile or bottom rail. If you can read it, we can quote the exact part before we roll the truck. If the sticker’s gone, our technicians measure the roller housing and track throat on site before ordering anything. Measure twice, order once, and put everything in writing.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for PGT impact-rated doors, we recommend OEM where the part touches the water line or the structural interlock. For interior rollers and latch hardware, quality aftermarket equivalents from Prime-Line or Roto can be a better value, provided the dimensional match is exact. We quote both honestly, side by side on paper, and tell you what we’d use in our own homes.

Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing

  • The door drags or catches mid-track. On Miami salt-air slabs, this is almost always worn roller bearings plus sand and corrosion in the track. The bearings fail first, then the nylon wheel flat-spots, then the metal housing starts gouging the aluminum rail.
  • The latch won’t stay seated or requires lifting the handle hard. PGT multi-point lock rods rely on precise alignment between the door slab and frame. Long-term settling and salt-driven corrosion at the bottom guide puts the rods just off center, and forcing the handle bends the linkage until it fails outright.
  • Water stains or a musty smell near the door sill after storms. Miami’s summer downpours find whatever gap exists. The usual cause on PGT sliders is compressed or cracked kerf weatherstrip along the interlock, or a sill that has settled out of level.
  • The door is heavier to slide than it was last year. Impact-rated PGT doors are heavy by design. When effort goes up noticeably, the rollers are usually carrying dead weight instead of rolling, and the longer it goes, the more expensive the track repair becomes.
  • Visible pitting or white corrosion on the bottom rail or track. Salt air travels well inland in Miami, especially in Brickell, Coconut Grove, and anywhere within a mile of the Bay. This is a warning that fasteners and roller housings are corroding from the outside in.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Expect these installed ranges in the Miami market:

  • Roller assembly replacement (per door): $180 to $340. Includes pulling the slab, matching the roller, cleaning the track, and re-setting the door level.
  • Multi-point lock or latch set replacement: $240 to $520. Part depends heavily on series; WinGuard lock gearboxes run higher than ClassicVue.
  • Full door re-install (remove, re-set, re-flash, adjust): $850 to $1,400 for standard sliders, higher for impact-rated WinGuard units with heavier glass.
  • Track repair or replacement due to corrosion: $400 to $900 on top of the roller work, depending on how much rail has to be cut out and re-anchored to the slab.

Every quote includes the part, labor, disposal of the old hardware, and a written line-item breakdown before any work starts. We don’t do change orders on hardware repairs. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers our installation workmanship, and both warranty layers get registered in writing before the truck leaves your driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

What an owner can safely do: read the sticker, note how the door feels in each section of travel, take photos of visible corrosion, and clean the track with a dry brush. That saves us time and saves you money on diagnosis.

What we’d genuinely advise against: pulling a heavy impact-rated PGT panel without two people and proper lifting gear. WinGuard doors carry significant weight, and a dropped panel turns a $200 roller job into a broken glass unit quickly. Hardware swaps on PGT doors are intricate, with small parts under tension, and without the right series-specific components, you will end up ordering the wrong part twice. If the door is binding, dragging, or leaking, call us at (561) 489-4036. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a repair worth making or a replacement worth considering.

RRonald P.

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."
